Yesterday was another great day filled with meeting people who are committed Republicans and proud Americans.
The day started in Florence, where Congressman Mo Brooks, Public Service Commissioner Jeremy Oden, and I spoke to the Shoals Republican Club members. (I was flattered by Congressman Brooks complimenting me on my speech; I met his wife, who is an engaging person in her own right.)
The members of the Shoals Republican Club seemed very receptive to my message and my extensive experience administering elections in Alabama, not to mention my short stint with the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
From there, Deborah Howard, my campaign administrator and extremely valuable & skilled member of my team, and I headed to Athens to provide campaign materials to Mr. Ricardo Jaramillo of the group G.I.A.N.T. , which strives to educate its members about voting.
After meeting with Mr. Jaramillo, Deborah and I headed to Huntsville for lunch with supporters Lynda and Randy Hairston. Lynda is a long-time friend and current member of the Madison County Board of Registrars. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with two strong friends and supporters of my candidacy for Secretary of State.
Gorhum’s Bluff was our next destination. We were doing some reconnaissance for an event I’d like to hold in north Alabama, in general, and Jackson County, in particular.
In Gorhum’s Bluff, we met Ms. Tabitha Veal, who shared information about the lodge and restaurant there. As we talked, it turned out she new my grand uncle who lived not too far away in Flat Rock on Booger Hill. She shared about meeting him and fishing in one of his ponds.
Later, judge Joel Laird met with me in Anniston to talk about my effort to be Alabamians next Secretary of State and catch up on things that have happened since we last talked. Joel and I have been friends ever since he was legal counsel in the Secretary of State’s office, years ago.
After dropping of some campaign signs in Oxford, I made my way back to the house of my sister, Angie Holt, in Auburn. She is a dog-lover and is generously caring for my dogs when I travel overnight. I thank her very much for assisting me with Emma and Betty.
