On the Road: Chambers, DeKalb & Jackson Counties

Yesterday, I spent time campaigning in northeast Alabama and east Alabama, including Jackson, DeKalb, Cherokee, Cleburne, Randolph, and Chambers Counties. I am blessed to have the opportunity to visit so many of the great and beautiful places in Alabama.

Around Alabama: Hoover, Ider & Flat Rock

I was honored to speak to the Alabama Federation of Republican Woman (AFRW) on Saturday. They were meeting at the Inverness Country Club in Inverness, a neighborhood in Hoover. If you are unfamiliar with Inverness, it’s just south of Birmingham on U.S. Highway 280.

I first spoke to the presidents of various county-level affiliates of the AFRW. In addition to my sharing information about my candidacy for Secretary of State, I discussed photo voter ID with them and answered questions they had on the subject.

Upon the conclusion of my speaking with the presidents, Britney Garner, president of the AFRW asked me join the treasurers of numerous county-level affiliates of the AFRW. The treasurers wanted to ask me questions about campaign finance reporting under the Fair Campaign Practices Act (FCPA), Alabama’s campaign finance law.

I thought this request would be for a short round of questions and answers. However, it became an impromptus class in campaign finance reporting, lasting well over an hour … the kind of service I would provide during my 24+ years on staff at the Secretary of State’s office.

I enjoyed the opportunity to speak with the treasurers and to assist them with their campaign finance concerns.

Exiting I-59 for Sand Mountain

After leaving the AFRW meeting, I drove to DeKalb and Jackson Counties in northeast Alabama, two counties where my mother’s side of our family is from.

I spent time in Ider (DeKalb County) and Flat Rock (Jackson County) before returning home to Prattville.
